When to Apply

M.Sc and Ph.D. programs: from 07/10/2019 to 03/11/2019 11/11/2019.

How to Apply

Online application form: Master Program or Ph.D. Program.

The following documents must be attached to the online form:

  • ID Photo;
  • Undergraduate Transcripts and Diplomas; when available, M.Sc. Transcripts and diplomas (all in a single PDF file);
  • CV (which must include (i) list of Math books (university level and above) which were read; (ii) Our program research areas which are of interest), and other documents (all in another single PDF file).

Candidates may request that their Extramuros exam be used in their admission evaluation.

Reference letter templates: in Portuguese (DOCX or PDF), English (DOCX or PDF), or Spanish (DOCX or PDF). If accepted, when starting the program, applicants will be asked to provide:

  • Copies of their passport and CPF (Brazilian Tax ID, to be obtained right after arriving in Brazil)
  • Registered diplomas (or documents which prove the corresponding program's conclusion; however, the diploma itself must be presented up to 60 days after registration).

Academic transcripts and diplomas must be apostilled or certified by the Brazilian Consulate Authority in the country where they were issued up to 90 days after registration.

How the Process Works

An Admission Committee evaluates and ranks the applicants. Some applicants might have their acceptance subject to a (i) interview (in person or online), and/or (ii) Performance in specific courses offered in our Summer School (January/February).

Course Registration

Every semester (specific dates vary), students must register for courses or activities listed in their study plan, which must be pre-approved by the student's advisor.

In special cases, students may withdraw from the program for 1 semester. A registration will be permanently cancelled if the student:

1. Does not finish the program in the maximum stipulated time;

2. Fails the same exam twice, or different exams 3 times;

3. Does not mantain minimum performance, as determined by the Program.
